David Johnston

David (Dave) is a team member of Human Potential Consultants Inc. and currently works as a consultant, facilitator, and management consultant for the last 12 years.

He was employed by the Canadian government as a learning specialist, line manager/team leader, manager, facilitator and auditor.

Dave also spent some time as a facilitator and faculty member with the Canadian Centre for Management Development (CCMD) and is a trainer for the Canadian Management Centre (CMC) of the American Management Association.

He has facilitated sessions, retreats, workshops and training dealing with:

• Leadership, supervision, management (including delegation);
• Orientation programs for new employees;
• Strategic & analytical thinking;
• Public service employee survey (PSES);
• Conflict resolution and communication;
• Designing our future for leaders;
• Planning and organizing;
• Effective communication;
• Team building;
• Stress and work-life balance;
• Change management;
• Managing transitions;
• Mission, vision, values;
• Effective meetings
• Customer service and service delivery; and
• Myers Briggs, etc.

Mr. Johnston regularly organizes and facilitates large (200+ participants) retreats and conferences. He has recently facilitated on-site and virtual events for:

• Agriculture and Agri-Food;
• Industry Canada (IC);
• Canadian Food Inspection Agency CFIA);
• Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA);
• Natural Resources (NRCan);

As a trainer, facilitator, and/or consultant, he supported clients in a variety of organizations in the private and public sectors:

More specifically, he delivered workshops to the following clients:

• Nissan;
• ExxonMobil;
• Department of Public Works and Government Services (PWGSC);
• Business Development Bank;
• Justice Department;
• Department of National Defence;
• Transport;
• Hong Kong Government Civil Service Training and Development Institute; etc.

Dave is also active internationally and has participated in the design and delivery of courses dealing with leadership, policy making, change management and team building for the government of Hong Kong.

He also adapted a civil aviation security-training program including a variety of educational products for Nepalese security personnel and delivered the program on-site in Nepal.

He was also invited to deliver a course on policy making to senior public servants in Jamaica.

Dave is a graduate in French language and literature. He studied in Belfast, Northern Ireland and in Ottawa. He is fluent in English and in French.
